3rd Space is a registered charity based in Fortitude Valley, that provides care and support to some of our community’s most vulnerable people – those who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness. They offer a safe environment with direct service intervention that aims to collaborate with visitors to the centre to break the cycle of homelessness.
Their services range from centre-based activities, such as a low-cost café, day rest area, showers and laundry facilities, to medical services and professional advice on housing, legal and wellbeing matters. Individual and family support is provided to increase stability of housing.
Their vision to break the cycle of homelessness is reflected in their mission to support people today and prepare them for tomorrow and their values of respect, dignity, persistence, and integrity.
Your new role
Your new role will report directly to the Service Manager and assist in ending the cycle of homelessness by developing strong relationships across the service system to support the best service connection for First Nations People. Your duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Provide flexible and individual interventions designed to meet the specific needs of each person or family accessing the service.
- Attend care team meetings with internal and external support providers, to ensure a collaborative care coordination service delivery approach.
- Attend service provider network meetings and committees, particularly providing a First Nations voice at such forums when required.
- Be a resource to team members in their work with First Nations people by sharing practice knowledge on First Nations approaches to holistic healing and whole of family practices.
- Assist in building capacity for the overall service to provide services in a culturally safe framework.
- Maintain accurate and meaningful files and data according to funding requirements and 3rd Space data collection standards, ensuring visitor confidentiality.
What you'll need to succeed
- To perform this role, it is essential that the person is an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person. It is a genuine occupational requirement under section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 QLD.
- Qualifications in Human Services, Behavioural Science, Social Work, or related discipline
- Exposure to a case management approach, servicing those experiencing disadvantage and vulnerability related to trauma
- Experience working with First Nations Community, advocating for culturally safe practice
- Current QLD Driver’s Licence
- Current Blue Card and Police Check, or ability to obtain
