Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Policy Officer to join their team. Reporting to the Manager, the Senior Policy Officer will be responsible for the management and implementation of high-level major projects, including legislative amendments. This role involves conducting high-level research, translating data into innovative policy papers, and preparing high-quality project and policy documents.
Your new role
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage high-level projects, including legislative amendments.
- Conduct and translate high-level research into evidence-based policy papers.
- Evaluate programs and initiatives through high-level research analysis.
- Prepare comprehensive project and policy documents, including submissions and reports.
- Provide recommendations based on research findings to key stakeholders.
- Support the development and implementation of policy and projects.
- Stay updated on current and emerging evidence in alcohol and other drug issues.
- Contribute to state and national alcohol and drug policy responses.
- Monitor and report on the progress of strategies.
- Draft briefings, reports, Ministerial correspondence, and Cabinet Submissions.
- Provide strategic advice to senior staff and Directors.
- Ensure compliance with government policy, procedures, and legislation.
- Prepare media statements and public messaging for Chief Executive approval.
- Advise on legislative compliance and new regulations.
- Coordinate freedom of information requests.
- Work collaboratively within the branch.
- Support the Programs team to deliver high-quality policy advice.
- Maintain effective office practices and contribute to business planning processes.
- Provide executive officer support to high-level committees
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Experience in collating, analysing, and synthesising evidence for policy recommendations.
- Proven track record in drafting briefings, reports, and Ministerial correspondence.
- Experience in the alcohol and other drug sectors is highly desirable.
- Commitment to scientific enquiry and evidence-based policy development.
- The ability to manage priorities, deadlines, and large projects independently.
- Strong networking and relationship-building skills.
- Collaborative team player with respect to confidentiality.
- High-level strategic and operational project management skills.
- Effective communication skills for diverse audiences.
