Your new role
An opportunity for a Mechanical Project Engineer to join the Engineering team in the Bowen Basin. Working within the engineering team, this role will be responsible for assisting project managers to scope and deliver the mechanical side of projects through the whole project lifecycle from initiation through to closeout. You will focus on ensuring compliance to BHP’s Small Project Management Framework, engineering quality and change management systems while working closely with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the best outcome for the business.
This opportunity is being offered within the Bowen Basin located near Moranbah, Central Queensland. A Monday to Thursday site based roster on offer with flying into the Bowen Basin from Brisbane or DIDO from Surrounding.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading multidisciplinary engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget and compliance with safety and quality standards through all project stages from conception to implantation and handover.
- Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams for seamless integration of mechanical systems into mining operations.
- Developing and reviewing mechanical design packages, including equipment layouts, maintenance strategies, and system upgrades, while identifying opportunities for cost savings and efficiency.
- Evaluating and selecting mechanical equipment and technology in line with project requirements and industry advancements.
- Providing technical support during installation and commissioning, conducting site inspections, and resolving mechanical issues.
- Monitoring and ensuring compliance to applicable codes, safety regulations, performance standards, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a culture of safety in all mechanical work.
- Preparing and managing project schedules, budgets, resource plans, and detailed technical documentation.
- Communicating effectively with stakeholders through regular updates, meetings, reports, and presentations.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will possess the following:
- Demonstrated engineering experience in the mechanical or mining industry, or other relevant experience.
- Hold a relevant tertiary qualification in Mechanical or related Discipline.
- Experience working as a project engineer to deliver large scale civil and mechanical projects is preferred, with knowledge of relevant Australian and industry standards.
- Proficiency in BHP systems, 1SAP and Microsoft Project (or other scheduling software) preferred.
- Well-developed leadership and communication skills, with the ability to bring stakeholders together for a mutually beneficial outcome.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a drive to achieve innovative solutions.
- Demonstrated strong safety leadership.
- Willingness to travel to site as required for the project.
- Strong focus on team culture and continuous improvement, with ability to mentor and develop graduates.
