Project Controls Specialist

Seeking an experienced Project Controls Specialist to join a growing team in the Bowen Basin Region.

Reporting to the Superintendent, this role will see you deliver projects that meet the approved objectives within the constraints of scope, time, quality, and budget to maximise value. Project-related health, safety, environment, and community risks will be identified and managed.

Your new role

As Specialist Project Controls (Project Controller) for the Major Shutdowns Group (MSD), you will support safe, timely and efficient delivery of major Dragline and Shovel shutdowns across our Bowen Basin operations. You will enable a high performing team through executing best-practice project controls processes. This is a Site based role, Monday to Friday (FIFO/DIDO) and holds the following key accountabilities:
  • Contribute to a culture of care where team members feel safe, enabled and engaged.
  • Participate in field leadership routines, displaying operating discipline through timely and adequate completion of assigned actions
  • Apply and monitor best-practice project controls processes to drive accountability and enable data driven decision-making
  • Work collaboratively with planners, schedulers, execution coordinators and cost controllers to optimise project resourcing and identify waste trends.
  • Participate in periodic benchmarking exercises to identify improvement opportunities and capitalise on lessons learnt, in pursuit of shutdown best-practice.
  • Support the development of 2y budgets/5y planning, tracking commitments, estimation of accruals, monitoring the impact of scope change, and completion of end-of-month submissions.
  • Monitor and manage project performance and compliance to ensure shutdown KPIS are met.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations through proactive customer engagement and response to feedback.
  • Manage escalations ensuring resolutions are provided in timely manner.
  • Drive process improvement through BOS routines.
  • Strive to achieve 100% safety, 100% customer value and 0% waste

What you'll need to succeed

  • Tertiary qualified in a mechanical or electrical engineering discipline or demonstrated equivalent trade experience.
  • Proven project management or Project Controls experience in major mining, Oil & Gas or Heavy Industry shutdowns is essential.
  • Advanced excel, MS project, Power BI and SAP skills will be highly regarded.
  • Strong problem-solving skills including organising and analysing multiple data sources to identify and address key trends.
  • Strong believer in continual improvement and simplification through innovation.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), collaboration and interpersonal skills and ability to work autonomously

This role is based on-site in the Bowen Basin on a 5/2 roster working approximately 40 hours per week. Candidates that are based in SEQ (FIFO from Brisbane), Mackay, Rockhampton or Bowen Basin Region are welcome to apply. Accommodation is provided for DIDO candidates from Mackay, Rockhampton or Surrounding. This role is long term for the right candidate and starting immediate.
