This is a well-established and reputable private healthcare organisation based in Melbourne. The business operates in the not-for-profit, private healthcare sector, managing several large hospitals within it's portfolio, and offering a broad range of care services and treatments. The organisation works closely with a range of stakeholders from the government / other healthcare organisations, and due to a resignation, are looking to hire an experienced healthcare contractor / funding manager.
Your new role
This is a pivotal and senior position within the organisation's Health Funding & Patient Services department, and the role has a major influence over the organisation's ongoing contracts and funding arrangements with external stakeholders. This includes the management of health funds and compensable organisation contracting, negotiations and contract performance; and the promotion, maintenance and enhancement of external relationships with funders. The main responsibilities are as follows:
- Lead Health Fund contract review, development and manage negotiations to continually improve contract performance so that the services are delivered within the organisation's mission and values.
- Work with internal stakeholders to support operational imperatives and manage expectations, including identifying opportunities to prevent revenue leakage or to grow revenue.
- Be accountable for the management of and oversight of day-to-day operational matters, including Hospital Purchaser Provider Agreements (or equivalents); and Medical Purchaser Provider Agreements (where applicable);
- Work closely with the Analytics Team that will support negotiation plans and revenue forecasting with a view to creating an operational dashboard on key performance measures re Provider Relations operations and key milestones;
- Identify services and opportunities for funding arrangements, liaising with key clinical service managers and Executive;
- Manage and negotiate contractual provisions and ad hoc benefits e.g. high-cost drugs and special medical supplies, including the dissemination of information and process expectation setting internally.
What you'll need to succeed
- A relevant qualification, such as a Bachelors / Masters in Health Sciences or similar healthcare discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years experience within a similar role, with a strong preference for individuals to be working within the healthcare, hospital or pharmaceutical industry.
- Extensive health fund negotiation experience and hospital service knowledge in a senior leadership role relating to large health fund contract negotiations, revenue or hospital management and be considered a ‘subject-matter expert’ in your field.
- Extensive experience in a senior position in the health care field, along with effective leadership and management skills.
- Highly developed influencing/negotiation skills, with an understanding of planning, data requirements, timeframes, and expected outcomes.
- Experience with senior stakeholder engagement, and demonstrated knowledge of the broader health care and industry challenges and changes.
