Your new role
This government department is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Manager to lead their small but dynamic infrastructure team. This role does not require deep technical expertise but focuses on managing technical resources, small projects or programs of work, and working within a shared resource setting (internal and vendor).
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a team of 6 technical staff, including desktop and network/infrastructure specialists.
- Oversee the desktop environment, network, courtroom technology, wide area network, and servers.
- Coordinate with external vendors.
- Ensure smooth operation and maintenance of infrastructure, including patching and preventive maintenance.
- Manage the assignment and resolution of tickets related to change, incident, housekeeping, maintenance, upgrades, and infrastructure-related projects.
- Implement and manage IT Service Management (ITSM) practices, transitioning from a legacy system to a more disciplined approach with Marval.
- Engage in performance management and foster a collaborative team environment.
- Contribute to the consolidation of IT services across 35 locations, supporting approximately 700 users, including the 2nd largest video conference support in Australia.
What you'll need to succeed
Qualifications and Experience:
- Proven experience in managing technical resources and small projects or programs of work.
- Experience in managing teams in a shared resource setting (internal and vendor).
- Strong people management skills, with a focus on performance management and team development.
- Experience in managing support teams (e.g., desktop, infrastructure, helpdesk) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with ITSM practices and tools.
- Ability to coordinate and manage existing vendor agreements and ensure effective service delivery.
- Government experience is not essential, but a strong track record in managing people and programs of work is crucial.
