Your new role

The Principal DevOps Engineer (EL2) operates with broad autonomy, spearheading complex initiatives that enhance the quality and efficiency of outcomes within the Organisation. This role demands deep expertise and advanced problem-solving abilities, requiring strategic decision-making and high-level advisory support to senior leadership.
Working in close collaboration with key business stakeholders and our local full-stack development team, the Principal DevOps Engineer plays a vital role in advancing project development across the Organisation. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining and managing critical relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, representing the agency in negotiations and forums to further its strategic objectives.
Locations: Brisbane, Sydney, Deakin, Richmond, Geelong, Adelaide & Perth.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Extensive hands-on expertise in AWS infrastructure and services, with a proven track record of designing, implementing, and managing scalable cloud solutions.
  • Strong background in establishing and deploying DevOps practices, tools, and continuous delivery pipelines—including GitLab, GitHub, Artifactory, and Jira—to optimize development workflows.
  • Advanced proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform for automating infrastructure provisioning and management.
  • Deep understanding of version control systems such as Git, complemented by solid experience in agile development methodologies to foster collaborative and iterative development.
  • Skilled in writing and maintaining moderately complex code across multiple programming languages, including Python, JavaScript, and Golang.
  • Extensive experience with containerisation, cluster deployment, and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, ensuring efficient application delivery and management
  • Overseeing Cloud & Data Infrastructure: Lead the design, development, deployment, and ongoing support of the Agency’s cloud and data infrastructure.
  • Managing Priorities: Strategically prioritise and manage work queues to ensure the timely delivery of critical initiatives.
  • Upholding Best Practices: Ensure all solutions are aligned with integration best practices.
  • Collaborative Execution: Work closely with business stakeholders to achieve targeted outcomes.
  • Agile Leadership: Play a pivotal role in project teams by effectively employing an agile development framework.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Actively engage with stakeholders to define project requirements, establish priorities, and deliver impactful results.
