Your new role
We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Specialist to contribute to key operational policy projects in sea dumping regulation. Operating at a senior level (EL1), this position requires subject matter expertise to develop guidance materials, assess environmental impacts, and provide technical advice on offshore activities.
- Expert Guidance: Lead the creation of new guidance materials on permit categories under the Environment Protection (Sea Dumping) Act 1981, with a focus on offshore carbon capture and sequestration.
- Environmental Assessment: Assist in projects concerning offshore oil and gas decommissioning and contaminants, particularly in relation to environmental impact assessments and permitting.
- Technical Advisory: Provide informed advice on technologies and operations in the offshore oil and gas sector relevant to sea dumping permit applications.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, government agencies, and industry stakeholders to shape policy outcomes.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Apply expertise in environmental management, marine science, or offshore industries to enhance regulatory practices.
What you'll need to succeed
- Relevant Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of environmental assessments, offshore energy sector operations, or regulatory frameworks governing marine protection.
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to understand and articulate technical material clearly, while balancing generalist skills in stakeholder engagement and project management.
- Government & Regulation: Experience working within government regulatory environments or a demonstrated ability to learn regulatory processes quickly.

- This is an initial contract for 12 months with an option to extend to 30 June 2027.
- Security Clearance: Baseline security clearance preferred (or willingness to obtain clearance upon commencement)

- Office space is provided in any capital city office or with the primary team based in Canberra.
