Your new company
This organisation provides health care to adults and young people involved in forensic mental health and criminal justice systems. They serve patients with complex health needs in community, inpatient, and custodial settings. The Clinical Director Aboriginal Health will work in partnership with the Service Director Aboriginal Health, the Director Aboriginal Health and the General Manager Primary Care to ensure delivery of culturally responsive services to improve the outcomes for Aboriginal patients in contact with the NSW forensic mental health and criminal justice systems, across community, inpatient and custodial settings. This position is primarily responsible for providing clinical leadership, support and advice, and fostering standards of clinical excellence in the development and delivery of Primary Care for Aboriginal patients.

Your new role

  • Lead and guide the General Manager Primary Care and key stakeholders on Aboriginal Health priorities and Closing the Gap targets.
  • Provide clinical leadership for culturally informed plans, policies, services, and prevention programs to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal patients.
  • Ensure cultural competency among non-Aboriginal staff and provide advice for respectful engagement with Aboriginal people.
  • Foster clinical excellence in Primary Care Aboriginal Health services and support strategic initiatives.
  • Represent Primary Care Aboriginal Health on various committees and meetings.
  • Promote quality improvement, research, and governance activities in Aboriginal Health, and support evidence-based training and practice developments.
  • Manage medical staff in the Primary Care Aboriginal Health directorate on clinical service, performance, and financial resources (note – this is a potential future accountability – currently no line management requirement)

What you'll need to succeed
  • This is an Identified role under the Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and as such Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role.
  • The ability to earn the trust and respect of Aboriginal people, communities, and organisations.
  • Eligible for or current registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Regulation Agency and Fellowship with a recognised specialty as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise and clinical leadership experience in Aboriginal Health Primary Care.
  • Experience in leading teams and the ability to work in multidisciplinary team settings.
  • Demonstrated experience as a clinical leader with a proven track record in initiating and planning change and achieving quality outcomes.
