Your new role
Due to growth in the team, an opportunity has arisen to join as Financial Controller. The Financial Controller will oversee financial control and reporting functions, ensuring compliance with tax legislation, accounting standards (AASB), and regulatory requirements. This role involves supervising and developing a high-performing team of accountants.
Prepare and review month-end and quarterly financial statements.
Oversee month-end closing activities and general ledger reconciliations.
Manage EOM reconciliation software (Jira) and ERP/Accounting system (Tech1).
Develop and review financial accounting policies and processes.
Handle internal and outsourced Accounts Payable functions.
Prepare technical accounting papers and stay updated with AASB changes.
Identify and recommend automation opportunities to streamline processes.
Improve profitability and key financial ratios.
Oversee compliance reporting and returns, including APRA reporting.
Support the annual budget and long-term financial forecasts.
Maintain and review the investment register.
Ensure adequate procedures, process maps, and cross-training.
Support Treasury in managing liquidity and other risks.
Prepare and review tax calculations and returns.
Manage year-end processes and coordinate with auditors.
Lead and manage a team of accountants, fostering professional ethics and behaviour.
What you'll need to succeed
- Accounting Standards: Proficient in Australian Accounting Standards, including revenue recognition, leases, expected credit loss provisions, intangible assets, and securitisation/warehouses.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Familiar with APRA reporting standards and key taxation requirements for banks.
- Internal Controls: Skilled at developing internal controls and associated policies.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Excel skills, with knowledge of Power Query, macros, or similar capabilities (e.g., SQL) being advantageous.
- Qualifications: CA/CPA qualifications are essential.
- Experience: Must have retail banking experience in a similar role.
