Hays works with various relocation companies, warehouses, building suppliers, waste organisations and freight companies in Canberra who regularly have needs for casual staff for both short and long-term positions.

Your new role

• In these roles you will be required to reliably arrive at work on time to work in a small or large team to physically pack, lift, move and deliver items ranging from small boxes of files, to office desks and chairs, a range of building supplies including plasterboard and even large residential and commercial bins.

• Start times vary, typically between 6am and 8am, but occasional shifts can start as early as 4:30am or as late as 6:30pm.

• Shift lengths also vary from a minimum of 4 hours to a full 8 or 10-hour day, occasionally more.

• The majority of shifts start at the company depots in Hume, Fyshwick or Queanbeyan, though some assignments may require you to drive to other locations in Canbertra or surrounds.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful you will need:

• Demonstrated experience working in a similar role within the last 6 months
• Reliable transport to get to work during the outlined start times.
• Be able and willing to safely complete the manual handling tasks associated with the role
• White card, asbestos awareness, silica awareness and forklift licenses are held in high regard
• Some of our positions will require you to complete either random drug and alcohol testing or, in some cases, a pre-employment medical assessment, as well as a national police check.

What you'll get in return

Once the registration process is complete and you are set up as a compliant temporary worker for Hays, you will be first in line for any suitable assignments for short and long-term work. Some of these roles offer full-time hours with a view to permanency and all positions offer above-award pay rates typically paid as per the storage services or road transport award. You will work with a dedicated consultant who will listen to work with you to offer suitable shifts, take on your feedback from assignments and assist you with submitting your timesheets for our weekly pay run.
