Your new role
As a Design Engineer – Primary Electrical, your responsibilities will include:
- Creating both conceptual and detailed designs for primary disciplines, including drafting and conducting studies.
- Reviewing designs for primary disciplines, focusing on single line diagrams, substation layouts, elevations, and more.
- Assisting the Engineering Manager with cross-discipline design reviews
- Addressing RFIs related to primary disciplines.
- Participating in FAT, SAT, and bench tests as needed.
- Developing concept designs for tender submissions and feasibility studies.
- Working with the project team, clients, and stakeholders to create optimized and innovative solutions.
- Performing technical investigations and feasibility studies.
- Developing and reviewing technical specifications and documentation.
- Coordinating with external vendors and suppliers.
- Attending site inspections and project meetings.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of design processes and standards.
What you’ll need to succeed
- At least 7 years of local experience in HV and renewable infrastructure projects.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with AS 2067.
- Experience working with NSPs or contractors.
- Expertise in primary design, including substation layouts, cable studies, electrical clearances, short-circuit forces, EMF/Corona studies, earth studies, lighting studies, etc.
- Familiarity with HV equipment such as power transformers, disconnectors, and surge arrestors.
- Knowledge of power cables, aerial conductors, electrical fittings, and related materials.
- Understanding of primary studies and regulatory permits.
- Proficiency in AUTOCAD and/or MicroStation.
- Hands-on experience with commissioning and testing primary equipment.
- Familiarity with NSP design and safety guidelines.
- Experience with HV transmission line design is preferred.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proven ability to deliver complex engineering projects successfully.
- Ability to stay current with industry advancements and emerging technologies.
